To apply for a UTA the students must be enrolled in a full-time bachelor degree program at UBC Okanagan [Note: A full-time student is defined as minimum of 24 credits (2 terms) for the Winter Session]. All applicants including international students must be permitted to work in Canada until at least April 30, 2014.
The successful Teaching Assistant may be involved in the following:
instruction in labs
marking assignments, labs and exams
discussion periods
tutorials and lectures
invigilation duties
academic assistance to students in office hours
The hours will not exceed an average of 12 hours per week. Wages are currently under negotiation; in 2011-2012, they were as follows:
• GTA1 (Graduate Student in a PhD program): $30.98 per hour or $11,897.04 for September to April (annual rate).
• GTA2 (Graduate Student in a Master’s program): $29.85 per hour or $11,461.04 for September to April (annual rate).
• UTA (Student registered in a bachelors program): $15.24 per hour or $5,851.20 annual rate.
• Markers: $14.65 per hour or $5,626.48 annual rate.
