Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences UNIT #8 requires

GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTS

for undergraduate courses in the following departments for

2012W Term 1 (Sept-Dec 2012) and Term 2 (Jan-April, 2013)

ECONOMICS, PHILOSOPHY, &

POLITICAL SCIENCE

 Applicants enrolled as full-time students at UBC Okanagan will be given preference (a full-time student is defined as a minimum of 24 credits over the 2 terms of the 2012W Session). Preferred qualifications include understanding of the discipline and good grades. Part time students and others can also be considered.  All applicants including international students must be permitted to work in Canada until at least April 30, 2013.

Teaching Assistants may be involved in the following:

  • marking midterms, assignments, tests, quizzes and exams
  • leading discussion periods and tutorials
  • invigilating tests and examinations
  • providing academic assistance to students during office hours

The exact hours of these positions vary, but will not exceed 12 hours per week, for a maximum 384 hours Sept 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013 (considered full time).  Successful candidates will be assigned duties in one or more undergraduate courses. These positions are subject to budgetary approval. Wages for these positions in 2010-11 were (with rates for 2012-13 subject to the current round of collective bargaining):
Graduate TAs (PhD Program) $29.78 per hour ($11,435 maximum)
Graduate TAs (Masters Program) $28.69 per hour ($11,016 maximum)
Undergraduate TAs $14.65 per hour ($5,624 maximum)
